Summary:
Dante and Virgil now descend into the Second Circle of Hell, smaller in size than the First Circle but greater in punishment. As they continue in the second circle they notice a monster demon named Minos. He’s like the body guard of this level of hell, but he stands at the front of an endless line of sinners, assigning them to their torments. The sinners also confess their sins to him, then he would wrap his tail around himself a certain amount of times indicating the number of the circle to which the soul must go. Dante tries to enter pass Minos warns Dante not to enter because he sees that Dante is not dead, but Virgil shares a couple words with Minos to let him enter. Virgil and Dante are walking through dark paths with ceaselessly rain and winds as if it was an endless hurricane. This circle is where the sinners of lust are placed. Dante feels sympathy for them and he would like to call some of the sinners out to hear their story. A sinner named Francesca, recognizes Dante as a living soul and chooses to shear her story with him. She shears that she fell in love with her husband’s brother, which happened while reading a book about the love of Lancelot and Guinevere. They started feeling the book a little too much then started shearing each other secret love. After Dante hears her complete story he faint because he is overwhelmed with pity.
