Reaction Paper
Threw out the story the author was very
fund of using imagery. He even went threw telling a story about earth and if
everyone died on the planet; how would it turn out by using lots of examples of
imagery. With using all five senses as he did in this quote “Would Superfund
sites revert to the Garden of Eden? Would the seas again fill with fish? Would
our concrete cities crumble to dust from the force of tree roots, water, and
weeds?”
The author also use Taste and Smell, he
mentions that if humans were not alive then animals wouldn’t survive very much
longer. He also states that, “If people were no longer present anywhere on
Earth, a world-wide shakeout would follow.” What Weisman means by this, is
without humans then there would be nobody to take care of the animals and
wildlife, causing many more animals to return back into the wild and not be
able to survive. This shows imagery by allowing you to smell the stanch of
rotten corps of animals and get the taste of it by you having the taste of it
by the smell.
The diseases would lead to citizens
going crazy and lots of chaos. Also in this world there are animals out that
need guidance in order to live. Animals would also begin to tare the city,
towns whatever it may be down. Weisman says, “Coyotes would invade Central
Park, and deer, bears, and finally wolves would follow.” The sense of Sight
falls into this quote because once again the author wants you to use your
imagination to visualize what’s happening. It’s also showing the reader how
life would be without humans on earth.
The affect that imagery have on the reader after reading a story like this makes
them think; what if earth really was put in this predicament? How would animals
really react due to the lost of humans? Would there really be chaos or would
the animals live in peace? These are the questions this story makes us ask
ourselves.
